TRUMP ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER AUTHORIZING A FOUR DAY WORKWEEK

maybe when you consider its subjective probabilities.

We asked: What is the SPM tag value for a four-day workweek in the United States?  The answer showed SPM 82.35 tag, which supported a subjective probability score that the idea can be implemented in the near future.  The unexpected inquiry took place during a gray-box testing of our sixth iteration of the proprietary G-101 SPM AI algorithm, a program that answers value correlated questions. According to the score, the SPM 82.35 tag meant that the event would happen. That was good enough for us to investigate the issue. Note:  Reliability of SPM tags – below

The US government hasn't adopted a four-day workweek due to a combination of factors, including the deeply ingrained tradition of the five-day workweek, concerns about potential productivity losses, and the practical challenges of implementing such a change across various industries and government agencies. Some politicians and business leaders have voiced concerns about the potential negative impacts of a four-day workweek on the economy and business operations. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) argued that a reduction in the workweek would hurt employers, ship jobs overseas, and cause consumer price spikes. These arguments appear to be mere opinions without reliable economic and social evaluation.

Several bills proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders have faced significant opposition, often stemming from disagreements over their potential impact on businesses, the economy, and social values.

A summary of some prominent examples:

  1. The Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Bill: Sanders' Proposal: This bill seeks to reduce the standard workweek to 32 hours without a reduction in pay, aiming to improve the work-life balance for employees. Opposition: (i) Critics argue that mandating a shorter workweek could force businesses to hire additional workers or face decreased productivity, potentially harming small businesses. (ii) There are concerns that such a bill may not be suitable for all industries, particularly those requiring hands-on labor, like manufacturing. (iii) Some worry it would threaten small businesses operating on tight margins.

The Opposition carried a SPM 46.76 tag, which suggest that the arguments are not valid.

  1. The PRO Act (Protecting the Right to Organize Act): Sanders' Support: Sanders is a strong supporter of the PRO Act, which aims to strengthen workers' rights to organize and collectively bargain. Opposition: (i) Organizations like the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) have actively opposed the PRO Act, arguing that it would violate workers' free choice and privacy rights, potentially costing jobs and harming the economy. (ii) Critics also contend that the bill would force union representation on employees and threaten vital supply chains.

The Opposition carried a SPM 52.03 tag, which suggest that the arguments are not valid.

In Conclusion: Senator Sanders' proposals often generate considerable debate and opposition, reflecting the diverse range of perspectives on economic policy, labor rights, and foreign policy within the US political landscape. Such opposition lacks merit since the root causes and means to counter he arguments against are based on false assumptions. In political contexts, the compelling viewpoint is enhanced productivity.

ARGUMENTS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SPM TAGS

“Sometimes in life the glass seems half empty, sometimes it seems half full, and sometimes the glass is twice as large as it needs to be.”

That is the issue – more hours worked doesn’t mean it’s better.

Today’s economy is very productive, and people don’t have to work long hours to earn enough money to feed, clothe and house their families. Increase economic productivity yield higher wages for workers. According to SPM tags, workers responded to this rise in potential income by “buying” more leisure time, as well as by “buying” more goods and services.

Social Activities are primary growth engines of a four-day workweek. (1) Household building and organizing. (2) Shopping, (3) Travel, (4) Dreaming and planning for the future and (5) Personal care: Taking care of oneself, like sleeping or grooming, is an important part of using spare time.

 BENEFITS BY THE NUMBERS

According to SPM tag, in 2025, the U.S. GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT (GNP) is projected to reach 28.192.00 USD Billion, by 2030 GNP is projected to reach 37,153.09. However, if a four workweek becomes the standard in 2026, GNP will increase, on a weighted average, to 11% by 2030

TRUMP ISSUING AN EXECUTIVE ORDER AUTHORIZING A FOUR DAY WORKWEEK HAS MERIT.

The question of a four-day workweek has intriguing potential not only on an economic basis, but also on a social level. Advocates of a four-day workweek are long and varied; individuals, organizations, and movements that believe a shorter workweek, typically 32 to 38 hours in 4 days, would benefit both employees and employers. They argue it can improve work-life balance, employee morale, productivity, and even reduce costs for businesses.  Pros include improved employee well-being, potential cost savings, and increased productivity. Cons include potential scheduling challenges, reduced customer service availability, and the need for adjustments to work processes.  “Pros” have the upper hand with hard data supported by research (while “cons” failed to supply hard facts or studies). Indeed, studies have consistently shown that people are more productive in those four days and this more than makes up for what is lost by not working the fifth day.

Studies in countries like Iceland, New Zealand, Spain, and Japan have shown that workers reported a significant increase (25% to 40%) in productivity when transitioning to a four-day workweek.  A recent pilot program in the UK involving 61 companies showed that 92% of those companies continued testing the concept after the initial trial. Academic reports published by https://autonomy.institute/, highlights the results of trials showing that reductions in working hours maintained or increased productivity and service provision, while also improving workers' well-being and work-life balance.  A study conducted by Boston College involving nearly 33 companies indicates a high level of satisfaction among both employers and employees with the four-day week, with companies noting improved productivity and growth in revenue.  Moreover, research has also shown that reducing work hours to 35 hours a week can lead to fewer sick days among nurses, which reduces employer costs.

These studies and reports collectively suggest that the four-day workweek can be a viable and even beneficial approach to work arrangements, with the potential to improve productivity, well-being, and work-life balance for employees.
